r/comeonandslam

I really love mashups. To me, a good mashup feels like a really good joke: two disparate things juxtaposed in a such a way that they somehow make perfect sense together. It's surprising and satisfying. So when I need my fix of unusual mashups I go to the subreddit r/comeonandslam.

What is r/comeonandslam? It's just page after page of songs mashed up with The Space Jam Theme Song by Quad City DJs. Take a listen:

When I first saw a video called "The Trap Rap" in my friend's Facebook feed — complete with a thumbnail of a dude in a suit wearing a crappy-looking Admiral Ackbar mask — I immediately refused to click on it for a number of reasons: Namely, because every single rap parody ever has already been done (good ones, intentionally-bad ones, and everything in between) and every single Star Wars parody has been done (you can find literally every frame of the series recreated on the internet as like, GIFs of the characters as marshmallow Peeps speaking in captioned Ron Swanson quotes.)

Still, rather than run the risk of feeling offline human emotion for one grueling minute, I clicked on the video anyway, and HOLY CRAP it's absurd and great:

Here's why I love it so much (and granted, this is a very personal interpretation of the video, but it also affected me very personally, as any great piece of art does):

Considered a universal right of passage for college students, the all nighter is the sacred tradition of going without sleep to spend more time studying or finishing assignments. All nighters involve a recklessly brewed cocktail of caffeine, your roommate's expired adderall, and a sudden appreciation for your staggering student debt.

Pulling all nighters is literally one of the worst things you can do to your body, especially on a regular basis. Go on WebMD or Wikipedia and look up the effects of sleep deprivation: heart attack, memory loss, depression, obesity, cancer. All kinds of cancer. Do you want to get cancer?

Your body basically begins falling apart after 25, you just get to decide how quickly that's going to happen. Just remember: nobody likes a burden. Not even your mom.
