The following are academic Cliff Notes for the pornographic western film The Pussy Went That-a-Way. They are not intended as a substitute for viewing the original material.
SETTING: The Pussy Went That-a-Way is a period piece set in the fictional 19th century town of Twatson, Utah . The action takes place in a series of bedrooms, and a stable (more on this later).
CHARACTERS:
Polly Spreads: An adventurous woman, she is described as containing “the Grand Canyon between her legs.” Recall similar objectification in Hamlet, when Hamlet says to Ophelia, “Put thine knockers in mine face and verily I will shake my head betwixt them.”
The Outlaw: The Outlaw is prone to using subtle wordplay, such as when Polly says, “They’ll hang you for this!” and he responds, “I’m already hung,” then defecates on her.
A Horse: In a striking instance of parallel imagery, Polly enters the stable and the horse enters Polly.
CONFLICT: The major conflict in The Pussy Went That-a-Way centers undeniably upon the query posed repeatedly by the protagonist: “Which way did the pussy go?” Without fail, the response is given: “That-a-way.”
STYLE: This story is a bildungsroman. This German term (literally, “Bill just shat on a Roman”) refers to a coming-of-age story, and since Polly is considered “barely legal,” this story marks her passage into adulthood. Note the scene in which the Outlaw dresses up as Little Bo Peep, and implores Polly to “take it like the baaaad little sheep [she] is.” Scholars have described this technique as both situational irony and awkward.
THEMES:
Appearance vs. Reality: The Sheriff appears in Polly’s bedroom with a “warrant for her arrest.” It is later revealed that this is not the primary reason for his visit.
Duality of Man: This theme is especially evident in the 2-man 1-woman threesome scene, in which the symbolism doubly penetrates the text.
Power Leads to Corruption: Note the scene in which Polly ties the Outlaw to a furnace, places clothes pins on his nipples and testicles, and sodomizes him with a saddle.
Fear of the Unknown: Polly must face this fear when she is forced to fellate a phallus protruding from a hole in the wall, later revealed to belong to the mischievous Horse.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1. Do you believe this film to be an extended metaphor? If “yes,” are you serious?
2. Polly Spreads is known to consist of two-thirds synthetic material, and is thus one-third of a human. Should her vote count as such? Consult The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass.
3. Which way do you think the pussy went? (Are you sure? Can I come with you?)
NOTE: The above Cliff Notes also apply to: Sleeping Booty, Sodomania Slop Shots 5, Weapons of Ass Destruction, What Happens Between My Tits Stays Between My Tits, Interview with a Vibrator, The Temple of Poon, Butt Pulverizers 16, Beowulf, Scarface and The Sandlot.
