Are any football fans as tired and disgusted of the Chevy truck commercial that features the John Cougar Mellencamp song, “Our Country,” as my roommates and I? Do you know which one I’m talking about? It displays images of football, trucks, and most of all Americans cause this is “Our Country” right? It really takes away from our enjoyment of the gridiron viewing experience mostly by annoying the st out us because its aired almost six times a game on average (I’ve kept stats). We understand that Chevy is trying to appeal to a certain demographic. You know this demographic, the average Joe that has to get up for work Monday morning after drinking a case of Silver Bullets Sunday and start up his half ton pick-up. We know and like their kind, they work hard and don’t put up with bullst. The fatal error that Chevy’s marketing department has made is they didn’t account on my demographic; The average college student that watches football all weekend (Kudos to Rutgers by the way), and also listens to Chris Rock stand-up repetitively. This is where my roommates and I would like to disassociate ourselves with the larger demographic Chevy is aiming for. Chris Rock said in one of his routines not verbatim; “Most of white America is living in a trailer park, listening to John Cougar Mellencamp records, and fking they sister.” To illustrate my point; I love football and America. However, I do not want to fk my sister and I hate John Cougar Mellencamp. So in conclusion, If you like listening to John Cougar Mellencamp you are probably fking your sister. Let’s not let this sickening, inconceivable, well thought-out point by Chris Rock affect the average college student’s football viewing pleasure and remember” John Cougar Mellencamp is a no-talent ass clown.
