If you are like me and searching for something a little deeper to put on your iPod than that chick from the "Black Eyed Peas" solo album than fire-up your Limewire and download these songs. Then, if you like them, leave a comment suggesting other songs that people may not know about, but should probably know about.
1) "Molly's Chambers" by Kings of Leon
Where you may have heard it before: This song was used in a car commercial where two young people living in a small appartment building were kicked out by an old guy with a broom, so they decide to buy a house. I know it doesn't make a lot of sense, but the song rocks. They've also had other songs used on "Entourage" and "The Shield".
Why you should care: The thinly veiled sexual reference, "Molly's Chambers gonna change your mind. She's got your pistol." was included in the primetime TV spot. This is my favorite band, if you like this song, download their whole catalog.
2) "Wolf Like Me" by TV on the Radio
Where you may have heard it before: In the background at a party or bar.
Why you should care: Most of the band is black, so if you like this song it proves you're not racist!
3) "God Knows" by Mando Diao
Where you may have head it before: It was used in the intro to "Stephen's Untitled Rock Show" on Fuse last summer.
Why you should care: They're from Sweden, and I once banged a Swedish girl. No, wait, that's why I care. Nevermind. Still a good tune, though.
4) "Fit but you Know it" by The Streets
Where you may have heard it before: During your semester abroad in England.
Why you should care: It's a fucking British guy that raps better than Eminem. the first line of the song is, "See, I reckon you're about an 8 or a 9, maybe even 9 and a half in four beers time." Need I say more?
5) "Time for Heroes" by The Libertines
Where you may have heard it before: This song was played during "American Wedding" when Stifler saves the day. I know it's lame, don't let it scare you away from one of the only commercially viable punk bands from the past decade. (Please do NOT flood my Facebook with punk bands from your town who "keep it real" because no one knows who they are. There's a reason no one does.)
Why you should care: You can listen to the guy you may only know as Kate Moss' drug dealer boyfriend for the truly great musician he was before she fucked him up.
I think that's all for now. Let me know what you think of the songs.
