The Do's and Don'ts on Quitting Your Job

Getting tired of cleaning up after others? Maybe that pencil pushing job just isn’t doing it for you anymore, well here’s a list of the do’s and don’ts on how to bow out gracefully on your terrible, horrible, no good, very bad job.

Do – Make sure to really think it through when leaving this job. Consider the factors of how flexible the job is as compared to others and if you really don’t find yourself happy there.

Don’t – Shooting sprees are never an effective way of saying you don’t like your job. Well…maybe it’s effective, but it’s not really that good.

Do – Try to ween your way out of the job if possible. If you know your resignation is coming in close then don’t tie yourself down to the job the last few days of working there.

Don’t – In an attempt to leave the job, don’t try to piss everyone off by remarking to them all as “f**king robots”, “cock wranglers”, or “Satan’s little fry cooks”. Chances are, one of them will see you again, and that one may be the person who carries a knife on them.

Do – Find an alternative to the time spent while working. Maybe go for a job. Have that big project you’ve been meaning to work on? Well, here’s your chance to get to it!

Don’t – Burn down the building. That’s called arson and it’s a felony apparently.

Do – Send a nice letter or card to the people who helped get you the job to show your appreciation for the opportunity. They put their trust in you and maybe the relationship won’t go too sour.

Don’t – Sending anthrax to the people who helped you get the job is a bad idea. Or a severed body part.

Do – Learn from your experience and realize that the job just wasn’t right for you.

Don’t – Do not go back to the same damn type of job you just quit.

Well, that’s it for now folks. As always, until next time…

A Christmas Larceny

I used to work for a chinese computer company that no longer exists; one Christmas Eve a man comes into the store right as we are closing and counting money and insists that we start up the Point of Sale system again and sell him the video card he reserved online. We tell him that the computers have been shut down and all the transactions of the day batched and sent to the... Read More » credit card vendor. He keeps telling us that it's already paid for etc. and we keep telling him we can't process any more transactions until the morning of Dec. 26th. He then takes out a revolver and makes us lay on the floor while he steals the cash drawers and takes off. Turns out he had in fact reserved the video card online and his full name, address and phone number were in the system along with his email address; i bet his New Year sucked.
