As a bored college student I spend a lot of time online, and sometimes when I'm not doing "school work" I look for stupid stuff.  One day I searched "how to build a time machine", my results were stupid untill I came across a design that I made from the future.  Time travel is easy, if you want a time machine bad enough, you will eventually use it to give yourself instructions on how to build one
