As anyone who is a fan of movies based upon French literature can tell you, 1998's film adaptation of Les Misérables was just
missing something. Fact is, there were many parts that strayed from the original novel; however none was more upsetting to the Hugo purists then the omission of Jean Valjean's death. Fact is, a scuffle with the studio left screenplay writer Rafael Yglesias to bail on the project before he finished writing it. The studio attempted to get another to finish it, but the only submissions they got were subpar at best, so they decided to just end the film with Javert's suicide. Now, for the first time ever, you can see the submitted endings for that movie!
