I want to be a writer for CollegeHumor! What should I do?
CollegeHumor takes article submissions either by direct upload or pitch. Pitches should go to the Articles Editor, Susanna Wolff, at Susanna [dot] Wolff [at] CollegeHumor [dot] com. She will work with you on the idea until it's ready for the site or you can upload directly through your CH account and we'll post it if we like it. Either way, you'll need a CH account to get your stuff on the site. If you don't have one, you can make one here: http://www.collegehumor.com/signup
Once you have the account, you'll be able to select "write an article" from the drop down on the upper right hand corner of the site, or you can click the orange "Upload" button in the same corner and choose "article." There you can enter text (don't copy and paste from MS word, use a text edit file) and upload images (max width is 600px).
The pay scale is based on a system of cumulative pageviews. If your accepted articles cross the 50k view mark, each 10k views will earn you another $10 until you cross 250k views on each article.
Our most read stuff can be seen here to give you an idea of what typically gets a lot of views. Many, though definitely not all, of our most successful items involve a graphic component, which can be provided by our in-house illustrator if your pitch is accepted.
If you still have questions about submitting your articles, email Susanna [dot] Wolff [at] CollegeHumor [dot] com. We do not accept script submissions and are not currently hiring any full-time writers.
Why can't I comment?
You must first create/sign into an account to comment. Don't have an account? Use Facebook Connect to login.
What are tags?
Tags are words describing the contents of pictures and videos. They help you find stuff around a theme, like Facebook or Halloween2k10
What kind of technology is behind the site?
Open source (ie, free) tools: PHP and MySQL on a bunch of Apache servers with help from memcached.
What kinds of jobs/internships do you have open?
Every semester we bring on Editorial, Production, and Marketing interns. For details about how to apply and a listing of available full-time positions, go to chmedia.com/jobs
Where did the R-rated section go?
The R-rated pictures section is no longer linked to from the front page of CollegeHumor. If you're a registered user, and are signed in, you can find a link in the footer of the site, or you can always access it by going to collegehumor.com/rrated. If you're not registered, you should sign up.
I submitted a picture, video, or article. What happens next?
We review every piece of content that gets submitted. If we like it, it will be featured on the site and will also appear in your user profile. If we don't think it's right for CollegeHumor, it will be deleted.
What happened to "local" content and "school pages"? Didn't that use to be a thing?
Yeah, we're not doing that anymore.
If I upload a video, picture, or article that I've made, do you own it?
We maintain the right to distribute your material via the CH and auxiliary methods that websites use nowadays (like mobile devices), but we don't own it forever, and we won't do something like put it on a DVD or in a book without your permission.
