Frequently Asked Questions

How does stuff end up on CollegeHumor?
People upload pictures, videos, and Hotlinks, and we post the best ones. If something doesn't make it to the main site, it still appears in your profile and on your school's page. If the item makes the main site, it will be have a “National Pick” emblem next to it.

The same goes for articles; people write them, and the best ones get selected for the home page. Please keep in mind that some stuff will be completely rejected (porn, hate speech, blurry photos, unwatchable cameraphone videos, etc).

I want to be a writer for CollegeHumor!
Anyone can write for us! All you need to do is make an account, then click "Write an Article" under "My Stuff." Our editors read every article submitted to the site, and if we feel that an article is good enough, we'll post it on the front page. If you are regularly writing top quality articles, you'll become a "Featured Writer," and that looks very impressive on a resume.

Why can't I comment?
Right now, you can only comment on CH content if you sign up with an e-mail address ending in ".edu," ".ca" or ".ac.uk." For college kids who don't have a .edu address (students in Canada, for example), or who signed up with a non-school address, we unfortunately cannot accomodate you just yet. However, we do plan on improving our site to accomodate you in the near future. We appreciate your patience.

You can also comment if you have a US-based phone that accepts text messages. Our current system requires text message confirmation for accountability reasons. At the moment, it does not support international cellular companies. We are working on developing an alternative method to expand commenting privileges to more users, while maintaining accountability in our comments sections. Thanks for your patience.

Why can't I comment on this girl's boobies?
We don't allow anyone to comment on R-rated pictures (which are mostly boobies). This is because people tend to be judgmental and insult the slightest imperfection on these girls' bodies. We imagine this would discourage other girls from posting themselves. So, no comments on boobies.

Ever since I signed up for an account, I've been getting spam. I hate you!
All our emails are 100% private; they are not shared with anyone. The only time we use them is for original signup confirmation, and communicating about content the user uploads. There is no way for a 3rd party to get access to our users' email addresses.

I haven't received a confirmation e-mail to access my new CH account!
Have you checked your Spam folder? Sometimes, it can take a little while for the confirmation e-mail to arrive. If you still haven't received it in a day or two, let us know.

I can't play the videos on your site!
You should be running at least Flash 8 on your computer. You can also try this player, which seems to solve most of our users' problems: http://www.martijndevisser.com/blog/article/flv-player-updated.

What the hell are tags?
Tags are words describing the contents of pictures and videos. They help you find stuff, like boobies or Halloween 2005

Can you link my site? It's just like yours but different!
Yes! Just sign up for our Linkswap program.

That girl is smoking hot, what's her phone number?
When people are horny on their computers, they start thinking irrationally. No, we can't give you anybody's contact info.

There's a song I really like featured in this video. What's it called?
We honestly don't know.

Didn't the site used to look different?
Yeah, we're pretty much constantly updating things here, both behind the scenes and in plain view. We recently began to grow hair where there was no hair before. To see how CollegeHumor has changed over the years, check out our timeline on the WayBackMachine.

What kind of technology is behind the site?
Open source (ie, free) tools: PHP and MySQL on a bunch of Apache servers with help from memcached.

How can I apply for a job at CollegeHumor/Connected Ventures?
Thanks for your interest in our company. Please visit www.connectedventures.com for job application information.

Where did the R-rated section go?
The R-rated pictures section is no longer linked to from the front page of CollegeHumor, but you can still find it as a category within the Pictures section. You can always access it by going to www.collegehumor.com/rrated (as long as you're a registered user). If you're not registered, you should sign up.

I uploaded a picture or a video, but it never made the Pictures or Videos section. Where is it?
CollegeHumor doesn't work like YouTube. Our editors go through all of the submitted content, and choose the very best pictures and videos to highlight on the front page and in those sections. This featured content is called a "national pick." After we've made a decision, we'll let you know about the status of your uploaded content. If your stuff doesn't make the "national" cut, no worries - it will still be viewable and searchable within the category of your school.

How can I "tag" my picture or video?
Our editors do the "tagging," and for the most part, we only tag content that we have chosen to feature as a "national pick." See the above question for further explanation.

If I upload a video that I've made, do you own it?
We maintain the right to distribute your video via the CH and auxiliary methods that websites use nowadays (like mobile phones and ipods), but we don't own it forever, and we won't do something like put it on a DVD without your permission.

If my content is deemed "local," will it still be tagged?
As a rule, the editorial staff "tags" national content and not local content. Your submitted content will still be searchable and listed by school.

I uploaded a picture, but now I can't find it. What happened?
Your picture may have been deleted by a member of the editorial staff if it contained content we deemed obscene or unsuitable for the site. If you do not believe this to be the case, contact us at our general e-mail address and we will work it out.

Do you offer internships?
If you're interested in an editorial internship, e-mail a resume & cover letter to yesiwillworkforfree [at] gmail.com. If you're interested in a website development internship, e-mail Kunal Shah at kunal [at] connectedventures.com.

What kind of camera does CH Originals use to shoot its videos?
We shoot with a Panasonic HVX, sometimes using a Redrock adapter with Nikon lenses.

Does CollegeHumor and/or BustedTees offer internships?
Yes, we offer internships year round at our headquarters in New York. If you can talk your school into it, you can get credit. Send a resume, a cover letter (sorry), and any relevant work you think will help us "get" you to yesiwillworkforfree@gmail.com.

How do I delete my account?
Sign in, click My Stuff, then My Settings, then Delete My Account.
