The 15 Best Christmas Movies of All Time
December 12, 2011
We asked you to tell us
what your favorite Christmas movies of all time were and the results are in:
15. Frosty the Snowman
A film of pure holiday escapism: If you asked any kid what their number one Christmas wish is, they--well, they wouldn't put "have that snowman I built form a soul" at the top of that list, but it'd certainly be up there with "a butt-load of Legos" and "touching boobs."
14. How The Grinch Stole Christmas (Live Action)
People obviously respond to the story of the Grinch, no matter how it's told, because The Grinch appears twice in this top 15. Coming in a little behind of its retro counterpart is Ron Howard's spin on the tale, with Jim Carrey donning the iconic green fur and, no matter how hard the Grinch tries, non-threatening frown.
13. The Santa Clause
Don't get us wrong, Santa's cool. But he's cool in the same way Steve Buschemi is cool, no-one actually wants to be him. That's Tim Allen's problem, though, when right at the beginning of this family movie, he commits murder and begins a game of supernatural identity theft. It's feel-good, promise.
12. Home Alone 2
Making its third and final appearance in this list is another John Hughes script. Yep, this guy wrote one fifth of the best ever Christmas movies. While it would have been impossible to top the first, Home Alone 2 was an unexpectedly worthy successor, moving the action from the Chicago suburbs to New York City, the Christmas Capital of the world. Eat it, Bethlehem.
11. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Let's be real for a second: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the song, is kind of shoddy. The melody's weird and the lyrics are downright bizarre in spots. The same can't be said for the stop-motion TV special, which airs without fail, seemingly non-stop, in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
