Yesterday, we decided to do a little experiment. We took a bunch of racist quotes that Donald Trump said and attributed them Hillary Clinton. At the bottom of the post, which we titled 13 Quotes Hillary Clinton Is a Bigot, we put the following disclaimer:
For good measure, we also changed the URL slug so it read as follows:
After that, we set it live and waited for the good folks on the internet to have at it.
So how did people respond? Well, like we suspected the article got shared by a bunch of people. At the time of writing, it has been shared 1,895 times. Granted a lot of people seemed to be in on the joke, sharing it with a message telling people to read to the end. Many shared it with no message at all, so while we don't really know what their intentions were, I have to imagine a bunch of them didn't get what was going on.
Then there were the people who definitely didn't realize that these were Trump quotes but confidently shared the post anyway.
Some used it as fuel to try and convince people to vote for Trump:
