A few hundred years ago, deep in the jungle, a girl monkey goes into labor.

Monkey Boyfriend: You can do it, sweetie.

With a loud monkey noise, she gives birth.

Monkey Doctor: It's a new species!

Monkey Boyfriend: We'll call it humans. 

An elderly fish enters, pats the chimpanzee on the back.

Fish: I'm proud of you, son.

Monkey Boyfriend: Thanks, dad.

(SIDE NOTE: The monkeys are not married.)

Years later, the human boy is cornered by some predators.

Human boy: Crap. Better evolution-ize.

The boy evolves some laser eyes, or possibly wings. He easily defeats all the predators.

Washington DC- According to USA Today- Gallup Poll released Thursday, as many as 92 percent of web users admit that when typing the acronym "LOL," they are not actually laughing out loud.

"I'm honestly not surprised by the results," says Professor of Sociology at Davidson University, Don Amburrough. "Whenever I have to email homework assignments to my students, some of them write back, 'Thanks! LOL!' I just don't see how they could find it that funny."

According to the poll, a mere 8 percent claim that they do laugh out loud when typing "LOL," while 22 percent "just crack a smile," and a whopping 70 percent have no physical reaction at all.

"I use 'LOL' a lot when I write my friends messages on Facebook. It's just polite, but it doesn't mean I'm laughing," says Sandra Collins, a 24 year old film production assistant. She continues, "You can't really communicate emotions when someone can't see your face or hear your voice, so I just type 'LOL' to seem friendly." She pauses. "That sounds ridiculous when I say it out loud."

Haast's eagle: EXTINCT
According to Notornis, a peer-reviewed journal for the study of birds, Haast's eagle is "the largest eagle known to have existed." Ate a diet consisting of moas, which were twelve-foot tall flightless birds. Its bones were first discovered by German geologist Julius von Haast, who, lacking a German equivalent of the English phrase "hella ginormous", named the bird after himself instead. Between its size, and its natural habitat of New Zealand, Haast's eagle was the real-life version of Gandalf's Eagles in Return of the King.


Passenger Pigeon: EXTINCT
Once the most common bird in North America. Its flocks were reported to be a mile wide and take several hours to pass overhead, which is why 19th century seven-day forecasts alternate between pictures of suns, clouds, lightning, snow, and passenger pigeons.

Commercially hunted on a massive scale until they went extinct. The current figure of speech "like shooting fish in a barrel" developed from the pre-Civil War figure of speech "like shooting a giant flock of passenger pigeons and managing to hit one".

The last passenger pigeon, Martha, died at the Cincinnati Zoo on September 1, 1914, having spent the preceding years writing memorial wall posts on the Facebook pages of her 7,825,623 dead passenger pigeon friends.
