I Fought the Law

Jesus broke the law. So did George Washington. You did, too, and we want to hear about it.

Distracting showtunes

Up -4 Down

My senior year of high school I decided to try out, for the first time, for the school's musical. I sang in my car all the time, so that was basically the only way for me to practice my singing. I sang along to "Wicked" a lot. One time, I was driving to the grocery store and I witnessed the car in from of me drive through a crosswalk while pedestrians were walking. I noticed that there was a cop at the gas station on that block and thought "man that cop should pull that guy over" and kept driving. I didn't look in my rear view mirror for a few blocks and suddenly I heard a short "whoop whoop!" and looked back to see the cop car behind me with it's lights flashing so I pull over (I guess he decided to go after that car who didn't stop for the pedestrians). The cops asks me "I had my lights on there for quite a while, why didn't you pull over?" to which I replied, embarrassingly, "oh! I usually look in my rear view a lot but I was distracted this time...I'm sorry." He then asks why. "I was singing really loudly. Try outs are coming up for the musical." His reply: "Oh, whacha singing?" "Wicked." The cop stares at me for a moment then tells me to be more attentive and drives off. Since then, every now and then I have bits where I look in my rear view ever 10 seconds to make sure I'm not being followed by a cop with his lights on in the middle of the day. I also don't sing "Wicked" songs in the car anymore.
