I Fought the Law

Jesus broke the law. So did George Washington. You did, too, and we want to hear about it.

About one month after receiving my license in High School, I was running late one day and was subsequently pulled over for speeding, 55 in a 35. I was 16 years old, pulled over for the first time, and was positive I would get a reckless driving ticket. As the cop approached my car I was thinking of all the ways my parents would explode when they found out; he lingered for a sec, looking into the back window of my station wagon, before continuing to my window. He asked, "Where do you ride?" Confused, I asked him what he meant. He pointed in the back window, looking at my mountain bike. "Oh, I'm on my school's mountain biking team, I have practice today." He responded by saying "cool, well, don't speed anymore," and he walked back to his car. I was dumbfounded, trying to understand what had just happened...Until he drove away and I noticed the police bike attached to the rear of his squad car.
