I happen to be chronically ill, since i was about 17. Last time i visited my specialist, and i complained about being SO tired all the time and that it depressed me, he told me, i should view my disease and myself differently. He said: "Having Crohns disease, is like being an athlete, it's top sport for the body to deal with it, it's natural for you to be so tired,...it's the... Read More »

I used to work for two years at a publishing company as phone assistant. Basically, I would answer the phone every thirty seconds and answer authors' questions or guide them through a difficult process. However, the majority of clientele were very old and computer illiterate. Suffice to say, much of my job involved technical help to the authors. Among the worst and most agonizing experiences, was a call I received from a woman having trouble "merging" her manuscript into a single word document. The problem was she had typed her entire book as 200 or so single page documents for each page of the book. You see, instead of just continuing to type onto the next page when she reached the bottom of the current one, she'd save that page and open a new document for the next. For anyone moderately adept at using simple computer commands this is a fairly easy problem to fix, but just takes time. However, it took me 1.5 hours to walk this woman through the process of 'copy' and 'paste'. This involved having to guide her through each mouse click, having to describe how to 'select all', what text is supposed to look like when selected, etc. I finally walked her through two or three successful copy and pastes before I ended the call to let her continue on her own. A strange sense of happiness and relief washed over me when I hung up the phone, as I felt I had made some huge breakthrough with this elderly woman. It was short lived because moments later she called back, got queued to another phone assistant, and requested to be walked through the process again... I can't describe how happy I am that I no longer work there.
I used to be able to get back from lunch at 12:30 and know that there would be a fresh batch of uPick submissions to read, but now I have to actually do some work as it is not being updated everyday!!!!
Several years ago I worked with a overnight delivery company. It wasn't unusual to run into all sorts of dogs when you made a delivery (including nasty ones.) One day, I walked up to a lady's house where the front door was open. As soon as I rang the bell, I heard the jingle of dog tags & realized I was too far away from the vehicle to get back there in time, so I braced myself.... Read More »
I work at Wal-Mart as a Wireless Sales Associate (basically electronics), and we have this one reoccurring older African-American customer who comes in with the assumption that we are some type of IT or Geek Squad. Well anyways, he comes in about a week ago, and brings his laptop. The laptop that he has is a Compact with Windows XP (a bit outdated I must say). Anyways, he pulls... Read More »
I work private security, we have lately been having a lot of issues with access control and breaches (people not allowed to be there, being there.) so we have one officer who is in charge of training all of the officers in proper breach control. During his breach test, he failed and got a slap on the wrist. During mine, I passed but I missed a minor detail and got written up and... Read More »
