I Fought the Law

Jesus broke the law. So did George Washington. You did, too, and we want to hear about it.

Detours and Break-Ins

Up -3 Down

My mom lives in a complex where laundry is coin-operated, so we wash our clothes ten miles away at my late grandfather's house, which my mom inherited and will become our permanent residence shortly. Now, the only time I really can do laundry is late at night after I work 2 part-time jobs. As I'm driving back to my mom's apartment at 2:30 in the morning I get detoured a long way around the neighborhood. When I pull into her parking lot an officer pulls me over. He comes up to my window and asks where I was coming from. I told him the name of the neighboring town, and I explained how we do laundry there for free because laundry is coin-operated in the complex. The officer told me that he asked because I just drove from an area that had some recent break-ins. He then told me to have a great night, and he pulled out of the lot, along with a second officer that had come up behind him. I parked my car and went upstairs, flabbergasted that he didn't even ask to see my license.
