I happen to be chronically ill, since i was about 17. Last time i visited my specialist, and i complained about being SO tired all the time and that it depressed me, he told me, i should view my disease and myself differently. He said: "Having Crohns disease, is like being an athlete, it's top sport for the body to deal with it, it's natural for you to be so tired,...it's the... Read More »
So you're tough?
I used to work for a nameless, faceless, retail store that is slowly crushing all American small businesses. Yes I am ashamed. Now on to the story. A young kid who had just started unloading trucks with me challenged me to an arm wrestling match in front of our other teammates on a break from the truck. I am fairly well built, but he was no wimp. He was in fact a gymnast, and would perform impressive feats in the stockroom. I always believed arm wrestling was about technique, so I agreed. My "technique" was off that day and he beat me handily. Now, I had practiced martial arts of my own learning through my youth and one day when we were taking out pallets, and a couple of pieces had broken off, that were roughly the same size. I had a penchant for breaking them on my forehead. He didn't know this. I picked one up and did so, quite easily, the boards aren't thick at all. Not to be outdone this youngster said "I can do that!" And what I heard next could only be described as a rock hitting a wooden wall combined with a steak being thrown on pavement. I didn't hear all of the anguished "EEEEERRRRAAAAHHHHH" before I fell on the ground laughing.
I used to be able to get back from lunch at 12:30 and know that there would be a fresh batch of uPick submissions to read, but now I have to actually do some work as it is not being updated everyday!!!!
Several years ago I worked with a overnight delivery company. It wasn't unusual to run into all sorts of dogs when you made a delivery (including nasty ones.) One day, I walked up to a lady's house where the front door was open. As soon as I rang the bell, I heard the jingle of dog tags & realized I was too far away from the vehicle to get back there in time, so I braced myself.... Read More »
I work at Wal-Mart as a Wireless Sales Associate (basically electronics), and we have this one reoccurring older African-American customer who comes in with the assumption that we are some type of IT or Geek Squad. Well anyways, he comes in about a week ago, and brings his laptop. The laptop that he has is a Compact with Windows XP (a bit outdated I must say). Anyways, he pulls... Read More »
I work private security, we have lately been having a lot of issues with access control and breaches (people not allowed to be there, being there.) so we have one officer who is in charge of training all of the officers in proper breach control. During his breach test, he failed and got a slap on the wrist. During mine, I passed but I missed a minor detail and got written up and... Read More »
