I happen to be chronically ill, since i was about 17. Last time i visited my specialist, and i complained about being SO tired all the time and that it depressed me, he told me, i should view my disease and myself differently. He said: "Having Crohns disease, is like being an athlete, it's top sport for the body to deal with it, it's natural for you to be so tired,...it's the... Read More »
Rage Quit
I'm a server at a chain restaurant. It's the type of place that expects you to make a full commitment to the company (this includes giving up time off), while at the same time it is made clear that every employee is completely dispensable. Though I hate the job with an eternal passion, I stay in it because I get the shifts I want and tips are descent. This is very important for me, as I have other commitments such as school and volunteering. Every day I go into work, I'm there a half hour early and I work, unpaid, for that time just to get things done. Throughout the two years that I've been there several managers have come and gone and each time we get a new one in, for some reason unbeknownst to me, they decide it's a good idea to mess with my schedule. This ranges from giving me shifts when I can't work, to attempting to make me bus tables, host, or expo (In which case I don't get tips). Each time this has happened I have had to fight just to get what was promised to me. Last weekend was fathers day and I had booked off the weekend because I was going to a cabin with my boyfriend and his parents. The schedule was finally made and I find out that I am supposed to work on sunday. Therefore, I can't go with them. The manager says he needs me because I'm one of the only 'experienced' servers in the restaurant. I make my peace with that and Sunday finally rolls around... I get a phone call from my manager a couple of hours before my shift... They called me off. I was pretty pissed. So the next day I go in... and he has me scheduled for EVERY SINGLE DAY THAT WEEK. OH I get it, you called me off because you were afraid I'd go into over time that week and you don't want to have to pay me for that. But you made sure to book me for a sunday that I wasn't supposed to work for (without any notice) so you could call me off last minute. I rage quit that day. And now I have every day off.
I used to be able to get back from lunch at 12:30 and know that there would be a fresh batch of uPick submissions to read, but now I have to actually do some work as it is not being updated everyday!!!!
Several years ago I worked with a overnight delivery company. It wasn't unusual to run into all sorts of dogs when you made a delivery (including nasty ones.) One day, I walked up to a lady's house where the front door was open. As soon as I rang the bell, I heard the jingle of dog tags & realized I was too far away from the vehicle to get back there in time, so I braced myself.... Read More »
I work at Wal-Mart as a Wireless Sales Associate (basically electronics), and we have this one reoccurring older African-American customer who comes in with the assumption that we are some type of IT or Geek Squad. Well anyways, he comes in about a week ago, and brings his laptop. The laptop that he has is a Compact with Windows XP (a bit outdated I must say). Anyways, he pulls... Read More »
I work private security, we have lately been having a lot of issues with access control and breaches (people not allowed to be there, being there.) so we have one officer who is in charge of training all of the officers in proper breach control. During his breach test, he failed and got a slap on the wrist. During mine, I passed but I missed a minor detail and got written up and... Read More »
