I happen to be chronically ill, since i was about 17. Last time i visited my specialist, and i complained about being SO tired all the time and that it depressed me, he told me, i should view my disease and myself differently. He said: "Having Crohns disease, is like being an athlete, it's top sport for the body to deal with it, it's natural for you to be so tired,...it's the... Read More »
Work doesn't suck.
One day after work, I went with my mom to a bookstore. The outfit I wear for work consists of black pants and a red shirt, coincidentally the same as the employees of this particular chain. While I was waiting for my mom to finish her late, I was overcome by a fit of nostalgia and wondered into into the teenage fiction section. Not two minutes after I entered the section, a woman wondered in and asked what books I would recommend for a thirteen year old girl. Slightly confused but always happy to help, I gave the woman a list of my favorite authors and the titles of series her daughter might enjoy, then left the section, found my mom and was leaving the store when I saw the woman again at the check out counter. She beamed at me and mentioned to the manager of the store who was checking out her books that I was a wonderfully helpful employee and that I should be given a raise. I embarrassedly admitted that I did not in fact work there, I just like books. After a beat of awkward silence, the woman apologized, grabbed her purchase and fled the store. The manager, on the other hand, offered me a job as a book seller. I make almost twice as much hourly working at the bookstore, reading stories to children and recommending my favorite authors then I did wiping down sweaty weight machines at the gym I used to work at.
I used to be able to get back from lunch at 12:30 and know that there would be a fresh batch of uPick submissions to read, but now I have to actually do some work as it is not being updated everyday!!!!
Several years ago I worked with a overnight delivery company. It wasn't unusual to run into all sorts of dogs when you made a delivery (including nasty ones.) One day, I walked up to a lady's house where the front door was open. As soon as I rang the bell, I heard the jingle of dog tags & realized I was too far away from the vehicle to get back there in time, so I braced myself.... Read More »
I work at Wal-Mart as a Wireless Sales Associate (basically electronics), and we have this one reoccurring older African-American customer who comes in with the assumption that we are some type of IT or Geek Squad. Well anyways, he comes in about a week ago, and brings his laptop. The laptop that he has is a Compact with Windows XP (a bit outdated I must say). Anyways, he pulls... Read More »
I work private security, we have lately been having a lot of issues with access control and breaches (people not allowed to be there, being there.) so we have one officer who is in charge of training all of the officers in proper breach control. During his breach test, he failed and got a slap on the wrist. During mine, I passed but I missed a minor detail and got written up and... Read More »
