I happen to be chronically ill, since i was about 17. Last time i visited my specialist, and i complained about being SO tired all the time and that it depressed me, he told me, i should view my disease and myself differently. He said: "Having Crohns disease, is like being an athlete, it's top sport for the body to deal with it, it's natural for you to be so tired,...it's the... Read More »
Office life rules.
So I got an internship in my second year at a graphics company. After a week or two at my new job I got a call from my internship coordinator at my university saying that I should come in to see her at her office after work. When I got there my internship coordinator informed me that my boss had contacted her and my boss (who was a 45 year old shockingly ugly woman) said that I was "watching her" at work. Since I consider myself a pretty normal guy, I found this both confusing and shocking. Also, all I did all day was sit in a corner and stare at my computer screens, so I'm not sure how I could have been watching anyone. I went to my boss the next day and pretty much asked her "wtf?" and asked if she could provide any examples of me watching her. Her example, I shit you not, was that one time when she walked by my desk I took off my headphones. She then proceeded to tell me I was creepy and she knew I was watching her because she's been stalked before. I spent the next few weeks literally not moving my eyes from my screen and keeping my headphones on at all times. When I asked her if my 'watching her' had gotten better, she said that I was "less creepy." Happy that I had improved the situation, I continued my job. A few weeks later, I got called into her office and was told that I was being terminated. I read the termination letter and it explained that my contract was ending for watching my boss and vanishing. When I asked what vanishing meant, my boss explained that, and I quote "sometimes you're at your desk and then you're not." So that was my first experience in a non-minimum wage job. Yaaaay....
I used to be able to get back from lunch at 12:30 and know that there would be a fresh batch of uPick submissions to read, but now I have to actually do some work as it is not being updated everyday!!!!
Several years ago I worked with a overnight delivery company. It wasn't unusual to run into all sorts of dogs when you made a delivery (including nasty ones.) One day, I walked up to a lady's house where the front door was open. As soon as I rang the bell, I heard the jingle of dog tags & realized I was too far away from the vehicle to get back there in time, so I braced myself.... Read More »
I work at Wal-Mart as a Wireless Sales Associate (basically electronics), and we have this one reoccurring older African-American customer who comes in with the assumption that we are some type of IT or Geek Squad. Well anyways, he comes in about a week ago, and brings his laptop. The laptop that he has is a Compact with Windows XP (a bit outdated I must say). Anyways, he pulls... Read More »
I work private security, we have lately been having a lot of issues with access control and breaches (people not allowed to be there, being there.) so we have one officer who is in charge of training all of the officers in proper breach control. During his breach test, he failed and got a slap on the wrist. During mine, I passed but I missed a minor detail and got written up and... Read More »
