I Fought the Law

Jesus broke the law. So did George Washington. You did, too, and we want to hear about it.

This summer I had an interesting run-in with the law. I drive an old white Crown Victoria with the police cage in the back for amusement purposes. One day, in the process of canceling my EZ-Pass, I pulled into a parking lot next to the local police station. After realizing the building was closed for the day, I returned to my car to see two squad cars from the barracks next door idling behind my vehicle. I assumed they were having a laugh at the car, but as I get closer they stop me and start asking questions. Apparently they had run my plates and nothing came up, and there had been a number of recent officer impersonation reports in the past. Of course I was just passing through the town, but they asked me a few questions, ranging from whether I had lights on the car to why I needed bars on the windows. This went on for five or ten minutes, with the three officers each looking concerned that I was some kind of teenage killer. Finally, they decided my car was legal, though very questionable. They gave me a warning to get my registration checked out as soon as possible. Turns out everything was fine, and the officer simply typed the plate numbers in wrong. What confuses me is why I was mistaken as the police impersonator when my miss-typed licence plate reads "N0TAC0P." Can I spell it out any clearer?
