"Someone has taken it over!"

Up +32 Down

My boss is very computer illiterate and tech-resistant, to the extent that she prints out company emails she wants me to read and brings them to my desk, even though we get them on every computer in the office, including mine. A few months ago, some certificate related to our email account expired, causing an error message to appear when applemail was opened. She called me urgently to her desk, and said, "The email won't work! I keep getting a weird message!" When I asked her what it said, she replied frantically, "It said someone's taken it over! Someone's taken over the email!" After a few more questions, I asked her if it hadn't just said a certificate had expired. She replied calmly, "Oh, yes. That's the one. That's what it said." I said, "So...no one has taken over the email. It didn't actually say anything about that. Because if it did, that's kind of important to know." "No," she said, "that was it." I still have no idea how she came to the conclusion that someone had taken control of our applemail.
