So this year in AP government we had a kid in my class who was well not the smartest person ever. One day during the middle of the semester we were discussing how political parties affect the voting system this kid raised his hand and asked "Since my last name starts with a D does that mean I have to be a Democrat?". My mouth dropped and so no one said anything for almost 20... Read More »
A guy I work with is ultra conservative. He regularly comes into our office ranting about the latest thing Fox News or Rush Limbaugh has said. Another regular rant from him is how Obama is destroying the country. When reading about Obama trying to tax the rich even more, he said, "What is he going to do? Put all the rich people in concentration camps?" I'm a conservative... Read More »
One of them does not belong with the others. It's Gerald Ford because he wasn't elected into office. Who were you thinking of?
When I was in my final year of high school I was doing a presentation on John Adams and used a clip from the HBO miniseries to fill time. Anyway, when I finished and asked if there were any questions, one girl asked, "Is that real footage of John Adams?" I don't know what was more shocking, the fact that she thought film existed in the late 1700's early 1800's or that she... Read More »
In my 8th grade history class we were learning about how Florida became a state. Our teacher was talking about how it was once owned by the Spanish, at that point in the discussion one student asked if Florida was so hot because it was owned by the Spanish. Even the teacher didn't stop laughing for 5 minutes.
I was in History today and one boy who doesen't always think before he speaks (He reminds me of a goldfish) Burst into a lecture about how Queen Elizabeth was assasinated in New zealand. In the end, we had to google it to convince him. He didn't speak for the rest of the class
There was this girl in my history class last year who was actually really smart, but on occasion... She didn't think before she spoke. So while we were talking about Benjamin Franklin' infidelity, many kids, and alcoholism, she raised her hand and solemnly asked, "Was Benjamin Franklin drunk when he was pregnant?"
This story could probably fall into the work sucks and polidicks categories as well, but I had to pick just one. So I answer phones for the customer service division of a large company. We frequently get calls from older customers who are a bit behind the times when it comes to technology. Well today I took a call from a nice gentleman who was very surprised that a real... My junior Year of high school we were learning about political parties in my American Studies class. This one girl raises her hand and, with a look of confusion, proceeds to ask the teacher if she was a Dominican or a republican. I've never had more of an urge to punch someone in the face.
So in an American History class we're going over a list of important people in U.S. history (Name, key facts, etc.) in preparation for the final. As we go down the list, we get to Davy Crockett and this is the first question that comes up: "Wait, Davy Crockett was REAL?"
When I was in High School we were taking a US history course. Being in DC, you'd think there'd be a minor grasp of the subject. And yet, a random girl in my class raises her hand and asks "Was James Madison the president when he signed hte declaration of independence?" The facepalms could be heard all the way to the Eastern Shore.
In my US History course we started to talk about FDR and the New Deal. Then some girl in my class raises her hand and ask "Wait there are two Roosevelts"
