Political Parties

My junior Year of high school we were learning about political parties in my American Studies class. This one girl raises her hand and, with a look of confusion, proceeds to ask the teacher if she was a Dominican or a republican. I've never had more of an urge to punch someone in the face.

Heat

In my 8th grade history class we were learning about how Florida became a state. Our teacher was talking about how it was once owned by the Spanish, at that point in the discussion one student asked if Florida was so hot because it was owned by the Spanish. Even the teacher didn't stop laughing for 5 minutes.

The man, the myth, the legend

So in an American History class we're going over a list of important people in U.S. history (Name, key facts, etc.) in preparation for the final. As we go down the list, we get to Davy Crockett and this is the first question that comes up: "Wait, Davy Crockett was REAL?"

Them Damn Intertubes

This story could probably fall into the work sucks and polidicks categories as well, but I had to pick just one. So I answer phones for the customer service division of a large company. We frequently get calls from older customers who are a bit behind the times when it comes to technology. Well today I took a call from a nice gentleman who was very surprised that a real person... Them don't have to pay them damn Intertubes." I can only assume "intertubes" is what he calls automated call center systems. He then went on to complain about our cost for shipping parts and blame it on rising gas prices because of "Osama binbama".....

I'm like the swiss; neutral

I live in Canada but went to a conference in Chicago for work. We met with these big shots of the company I work for. They got very intoxicated at dinner and started talking politics. The highest ranking guy at the table looked me right and the eye and said "how do you canucks feel about Barack Osama?" I knew right then that talking politics with these guys wouldn't be a good... Brilliance!

When I was in High School we were taking a US history course. Being in DC, you'd think there'd be a minor grasp of the subject. And yet, a random girl in my class raises her hand and asks "Was James Madison the president when he signed hte declaration of independence?" The facepalms could be heard all the way to the Eastern Shore.

the effects of no child left behind

When I was in my final year of high school I was doing a presentation on John Adams and used a clip from the HBO miniseries to fill time. Anyway, when I finished and asked if there were any questions, one girl asked, "Is that real footage of John Adams?" I don't know what was more shocking, the fact that she thought film existed in the late 1700's early 1800's or that she had... Read More »at she had passed the previous 11 grades.
