Vash- are you serious? there's NOTHING spectacular about a guy tossing pizza behind his back while blindfolded? nothing at all? do you live in pizzaville, USA where this type of thing happens every day?
Thanks dudes who like my character and dude who says we're gay. To answer ManCowTurkey's question, we started off with more sketches in the show (CHTV's), but found that people were more into the storylines and the type of stuff they couldn't find on the website.
MTV is pretty hands-off, believe it or not. Since we're the production company, we handle everything from start to finish, and they only chime in to approve scripts and give guidance where they can help. They've been great.
We actually didn't know who the sponsors would be until we saw the show on the air, so that didn't factor in.
It's definitely been an adjustment. The toughest thing is going from creating 3 min sketches with a joke every second to a well-paced 30 min story arc.
Rosie, Susanna, and Kevin are all on the writing staff for the show but yeah, they aren't show regulars. Having a cast of nine people was enough for an audience to compute. But they're in the show every so often making appearances.
We started making original videos in 2006 when Sam came aboard to head up the new effort. The stuff around the office sprang out of just being jackasses with camera equipment.
I guess we'll know in the next few months. Those things take a while.
I think the whole "MTV doesn't play music videos" thing is hilarious. The reason they stopped playing them is because nobody watches the channel when they do. It would obviously be cheaper for them to play videos instead of creating shows, so there's clearly a reason why they don't. If you were MTV would you play something that made everybody change the channel?
I wasn't in a fraternity, though my co-founder Josh was an SAE.
MTV first contacted us about a year ago. They wanted to put something together using the CHTV's and Hardly Workings. That eventually evolved into the narrative format we have now.
Random example of a thing that we couldn't say was "wet snuggle." We had to replace it with "weiner kiss." That's in the episode "Sarah's New Boyfriend."
Well, I appreciate you watching. We first were going to do a sketch-based show, but when we took it to focus groups, they said "we want to see more of the office stuff since we can see CH sketches on the web whenever we want to."
I think it was the right choice, I'm really proud of the format of the show and it's only getting better as we learn the television world.
We're definitely cutting back on the old stuff, but there will be some stuff in there so we can showcase some of our favorites to a new audience. Hopefully it won't be too bad for ya.
On the site, we bleep out some stuff so we can run ads on the video. If a video is too dirty already, we'll just mark it "not safe for advertisers" and leave it unbleeped.
Josh and I never really had long term expectations for it for most of the beginning, we just kind of took it day by day. But within the past few years we definitely wanted it to become a brand that people were into not just online (in movies tv, books, tours, etc).
We had a message board a few years ago. We took it down because it became too much of a hassle to run and too insular. I like that the community now is based around the content.

MTV is pretty hands-off, believe it or not. Since we're the production company, we handle everything from start to finish, and they only chime in to approve scripts and give guidance where they can help. They've been great. We actually didn't know who the sponsors would be until we saw the show on the air, so that didn't factor in.
Ricky Van Veen February 21, 2009

I guess we'll know in the next few months. Those things take a while.I think the whole "MTV doesn't play music videos" thing is hilarious. The reason they stopped playing them is because nobody watches the channel when they do. It would obviously be cheaper for them to play videos instead of creating shows, so there's clearly a reason why they don't. If you were MTV would you play something that made everybody change the channel?

I guess we'll know in the next few months. Those things take a while.I think the whole "MTV doesn't play music videos" thing is hilarious. The reason they stopped playing them is because nobody watches the channel when they do. It would obviously be cheaper for them to play videos instead of creating shows, so there's clearly a reason why they don't. If you were MTV would you play something that made everybody change the channel?

MTV first contacted us about a year ago. They wanted to put something together using the CHTV's and Hardly Workings. That eventually evolved into the narrative format we have now.Random example of a thing that we couldn't say was "wet snuggle." We had to replace it with "weiner kiss." That's in the episode "Sarah's New Boyfriend."
