  I don't think he deserves an academy award just because you "couldn't get enough of him." I imagine "sadistic killer" is sort of lower on the list of "hard things to play," (#1 for me would be "gay aids-riddled retard," followed closely by "a person who respects your taste in batman movies") and there are a lot of people who play much less cartoonish characters in a lot of other movies who deserve a prestigious award more.
