  Actually, not that far of a stretch, if you look at the connection; George Carlin, who we know played Rufus, also played Mr. Conductor on the Thomas The Tank Engine Show on tv. Well, prior to Carlin, Mr. conductor was played by Ringo Star. So, if you think about it, depending on how "young" you were, it's not such an inconceivable mix-up.
