Star Wars Kid

The Star Wars Kid, without any of that fancy editing.

14-year-old Ghyslain Raza from Quebec filmed himself swinging a golf ball retriever in a studio at his high school in November 2002. His actions mimic those of Darth Maul wielding a light saber in Star Wars Episode I. Classmates found the footage on the studio shelf and put it online, where it soon became the most popular viral video on the internet...ever. The force was not with young Ghyslain, however: classmates harassed him about the video to the point where he dropped out of school and got a private tutor. In the summer of 2003, Ghyslain's family sued the classmates responsible, claiming that their actions led to emotional damage to their son. Some fans of the video made efforts to give back to Ghyslain for the entertainment he provided them: a computer programmer from California raised money online to buy him an iPod, and other fans started an unsuccessful petition to give him a role in the final Star Wars movie. The suit settled out of court in 2006.
