The worst part is the contestants receive the questions ahead of time.
At the 2007 Miss Teen USA telecast, South Carolina contender Lauren Caitlin Upton's ditzy response during the pageant's Q&A portion created an internet sensation. During the segment, host Aimee Teegarden asked Upton, "Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?" Miss South Caroline response was a sea of nonsense and made-up words that would have embarrassed most kindergartners. Despite initial embarrassment, Upton has benefited from her garbled response. She's since signed with Donald Trump's modeling agency, and appeared in ads for Nautica and Wrangler. She's modeled for Seventeen, American Cheerleader, and CosmoGirl, and as herself in the Weezer 2008 video "Pork and Beans." The Yale Book of Quotations named this the second most-quotable video of 2007, following only the University of Florida's "Don't Tase Me, Bro!" mishap.
