American game shows typically focus on contestants solving puzzles or performing goofy feats of athleticism. Sure, we had Fear Factor, but for the most part, there's not a whole lot of bug munching going on. That's where twisted Japanese game shows come in, though. The humiliation seems to be limitless and bunghole sniffing or blowing a cockroach into the mouth of your competitor is just a regular thing.
